An AI demo compresses a small industrial operation into a blinking cursor. Behind that cursor, accelerators generate tokens, CPUs execute programs, storage remembers yesterday, and some unfortunate engineer makes sure the agent cannot email the production database to a stranger. The model gets the applause. Everyone else gets paged.
Last week offered a good tour of that hidden machinery. DeepSeek released DeepInfer, Google introduced Agent Compute Engine, and NVIDIA used GTC Berlin to expand its infrastructure for agents. My read: the next useful gains in AI will increasingly depend on how efficiently we run models, preserve their working environments, and control their actions.
These announcements address different parts of the same problem. Intelligence becomes a product only when you can afford to run it repeatedly and trust the environment in which it operates. Let’s open the hood.
